Abstract: This paper introduces the general situation and management status of Austrian forestry, and expounds the multifunctional value and function of forest. The institutions, policies, mechanisms and measures of sustainable management, management, protection, utilization and development of Austrian forests were analyzed. The methods and experiences of forest sustainable development can be learned from four aspects: adhering to the concept of sustainable development and intensive development mode of forest management, adhering to the management and transformation of forest with the approach of close to natural forest, adhering to the training of multi-level forestry technical personnel, adhering to the parallel protection and utilization, and enhancing the research and development ability of wood products.
