Abstract:
Intestinal microbial community plays a key role in maintaining inner environment and physiological activity of host. The Asian elephant is a monogastric and herbivores animal. However, the Asian elephant genome does not encode genes related to the degradation of structural polysaccharides (cellulose).Instead,it digests cellulose through intestinal microorganisms. Therefore, the intestinal microbiota flora of Asian elephant plays an important role in it.There are few studies on the intestinal flora of Asian elephant so far, which mainly focus on the species of microbiota, the digestion of cellulose and the changes of microbiota caused by different factors. This paper collates the current studies of intestinal microorganisms related to Asian elephants, and expounds the related research progress of other mammals,in order to provide ideas for further research on intestinal microorganisms of Asian elephants.
