Abstract:
From March to December 2023, a survey was conducted using the line transect method to study the habitat characteristics of Chinese pangolin (Manis pentadactyla) in the Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve. Results showed that 43 occurrences were recorded, and 25 burrows of Chinese pangolin were identified. The burrow entrance dimensions were generalized as: major axis 15.60±2.81 cm (
n=25), minor axis 13.30±2.92 cm (
n=25). The burrow sites were typically located on slopes of approximately 30°-45°, with sunny or semi-shaded aspects, at elevations ranging from 800 to 1600 m. These burrows were mainly distributed in evergreen broad-leaved forests, valley rainforests, secondary forests, montane rainforests, abandoned-farmland, and rubber plantations around the reserve. In these habitats, the usage rates of ant mounds were as follows: monsoon evergreen broad-leaved forest (17.39%), valley rainforest (6.9%), secondary forest (8.7%), montane rainforest (6.98%), abandoned-farmland (2.78%), and rubber plantations (3.03%). The diversity index, from highest to lowest, was ranked as follows: monsoon evergreen broad-leaved forest > secondary forest > montane rainforest > valley rainforest > rubber plantation > abandoned-farmland.
