Abstract:
The construction of country parks is an important measure for implementing the ecological development of beautiful Guangdong, which serves as the strategic driver for advancing ecological progress in the province and represents a vital project concerning Guangdong’s long-term development and the well-being of its people. Drawing on the successful planning and development experience of Hong Kong’s country parks, Shenzhen began planning and constructing country parks in 2003. In December 2022, Guangdong proposed the establishment of a batch of exemplary country parks, followed by a phased construction target in September 2024: to complete the construction of over 100 new country parks or mountain parks across the province by the end of December 2027. Currently, the development of country parks in Guangdong faces challenges such as the lack of an overall plan, insufficient funding, constraints in land-use guarantees, and weak post-construction operation and maintenance. This paper explores the concept and classification of country parks in Guangdong, the importance of their construction, as well as the achievements, issues, and strategies in their development. It summarizes and proposes construction strategies for Guangdong’s country parks from four dimensions: planning and design, funding, land-use guarantees, and operation management.
