Current situation, protection and utilization on forest and grassland genetic resources in Jinning district of Kunming city

Abstract: Forest and grass germplasm resources are the basis for the construction and development of the forest and grass industry, and are related to the improvement of forest and grassland quality and the supply of forest and grass ecological products. Using a combination of census, key surveys, interviews, and data collection, 31 survey lines (total length of 169.9 km) were laid out in Jinning District on the south bank of Dianchi Lake, and the forest and grassland in 8 towns (subdistrict offices) in the district were field surveys and data analysis of germplasm resources were carried out, and the results showed that: (1) there are 846 species of trees, shrubs, vines, bamboos, and herbaceous resources in 144 families, 475 genera, and 221 species of trees in the region, accounting for 26.12% of the total; 234 species of shrubs, accounting for 27.66%; 49 species of vines, accounting for 5.79%; 7 species of bamboos, accounting for 0.83%; 335 species of herbs, accounting for 39.60%; (2) from the perspective of resource distribution, the horizontal distribution in the whole region is relatively even, and wild germplasm resources are mainly distributed in the three towns of Xiyang, Shuanghe and Erjie. From the perspective of altitude distribution, wild germplasm resources are most concentrated in the altitude range of 2 200~2 400 m. It is recommended to carry out utilization zoning of forest and grass germplasm resources, strengthen the utilization of wild fine forest and grass germplasm resources, protect and promote the use of tree species with high ornamental value, conduct research on the utilization of rare germplasm resources, establish a digital management platform for forest and grass germplasm resources to achieve dynamic monitoring, increase supporting investment, and improve the ability to protect and develop germplasm resources.
