Abstract:
Activity rhythm is an important aspect of behavioral ecology research, understanding the activity rhythms of animals is an important part of analyzing ecological niche differentiation among species and recognizing the mechanisms of interspecific coexistence. This study was conducted through infrared cameras and manual monitoring, from 2019 to 2023, an investigation was conducted on the activities of Asian elephants within Guanping Asian elephant food source base, and the daily and monthly activity rhythms were analyzed. The results show that the overall activity frequency of Asian elephants is on the rise. The number of monitored Asian elephants has been on the rise, reaching 303 in 2023. Asian elephants are mainly concentrated from July to November each year (≥4 times), and occasionally appear in other months (< 4 times). The activity time of Asian elephants in this area is mainly concentrated between 17:00 and 21:00 in the evening. This study clearly understands the activity rhythms of Asian elephants from the perspective of activity time, which is conducive to a deeper understanding of the coexistence mechanism of species in the same domain and provides a scientific basis for further research on the behavioral ecological adaptation of Asian elephants and the formulation of habitat protection countermeasures.
