Abstract:
Situated in the southern region of the Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan province, Yuanyang county boasts an abundance of both natural and cultural assets, notably the Hani terraces. These terraces contribute to a complex network of protected areas in the region.Nonetheless, these historically established protected regions encounter challenges like spatial overlaps, conflicting management, inefficient spatial organization, and longstanding disputes. This paper examines the current contradictions and challenges faced by Yuanyang county’s protected areas and suggests a scientific and well-founded plan for their integration and optimization. The aim is to develop a cohesive, organized, effective, and efficiently run system of protected areas, striking a harmonious balance among ecological conservation, cultural heritage maintenance, and sustainable regional growth. The research indicates that efforts should be directed towards harmonizing spatial limits, consolidating management bodies, refining functional zoning, fostering community partnerships, and boosting technological backing. This approach supplies a scientific basis for constructing an ecological security shield and securing the long-term preservation of Hani terraces, recognized as a world heritage location.
