Preliminary results on diversity survey of bird and animal species in Menglun Reserve

Abstract
From March 2023 to February 2024,in Menglun Reserve of Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve,40 infrared cameras were deployed to investigate the diversity of birds and animals in the reserve,and the layout method of kilometer grid was adopted.A total of 40 infrared cameras were deployed,covering the whole territory of Menglun Reserve.The survey obtained a total of 7 009 camera working days,a total of 40 983 photos were taken,and 11 225 photos were valid.4 509 independent valid photos were obtained,including 2 868 animal photos,1 481 bird photos,18 amphibian photos and 142 human activity photos.There were 64 species of birds and animals of 13 orders,30 families,22 species of mammals of 6 orders,14 families,and 42 species of birds of 7 orders,16 families.There are 8 species of wild animals and 14 species of birds under state key protection,2 species of critically endangered (CR),4 species of endangered (EN),6 species of vulnerable (VU),and 10 species of near-endangered (NT) by the China Red List of Vertebrates.The five birds and animals with the highest relative abundances index (RAI) in Menglun Reserve were Larvivora cyane (RAI=5.05),Dremomys rufigenis (RAI=5.01) and Muntiacus vaginalis (RAI=3.1),Martes flavigula (RAI=3.02),Chalcophaps indica (RAI=3.01).The systematic survey of the whole territory of Menglun Reserve was carried out,and the list of bird and animal species in the reserve was updated,which provided a scientific data for wildlife monitoring and protection management in the reserve.
